Building the New Collectible

Super Flyer

— Crandall Super Flyer —

This is a collaboration project with Chris Runge of Runge Cars.

The original Flyer boat, designed by Bruce Crandall, was 15’ in overall length and was designed in 1935 for the 135 cubic inch race class. Original plans were published in Motor Boating Magazine and Motor Boating Ideal Series books. This project has taken those plans and scaled them up to 20’ in overall length. This additional size yields a larger planning surface and helps reduce the notorious porpoising characteristics that the original Flyer boat was known for.

Scope of work is the bottom half of the hull is being built at Fitzke Boatworks and then Chris Runge will complete an all aluminum deck using traditional coachwork techniques. This boat will be powered by a Mercruiser V6 and although it won’t be breaking any speed records; it sure will win style points.
